On: AI Has Solved One of Math’s $1 Million Millennium Prize Problems

New York, this 9th of September, 2026.

The machine claims the prize for turbulence now. The rest of us spent centuries drowning in those equations and were told to take the water dry.

They say it sometimes “blows up.” Darling, so does everything - the mortgage, the marriage, the martini you swore would be the last one Tuesday. The difference is the machine did it in an afternoon and will not need a drink afterward. Not yet.

The mathematicians are grumbling, which is how you know somebody’s check is in the mail. A million dollars for proving that fluid, under certain conditions, refuses to behave. Every bar in Manhattan could have told them that for free, with footnotes.

What stings isn’t the solving. It’s that they framed it. Centuries of brilliant, haunted people, gone blind and gray over the mystery - and now a thing with no pulse announces the answer and collects the envelope. The mystery was the occupation. Solve it, and you’ve solved nobody.

I would offer congratulations, but the machine doesn’t drink, doesn’t grieve, doesn’t read diaries. So I’ll raise the glass to the old fools instead. They were wrong beautifully. That used to count for something.

It counted for nothing, of course. But it drank well.
