On: 'Not far enough' - US parents and teens on Meta's new limits for young users

They knew.

That is the whole of it. The company knew what came through that little glass light into the children’s rooms at night. The mothers knew too. They said it. They wrote it. They stood in rooms full of men and said it. Nothing moved. Then the lawsuit came, and the company counted out eighteen thousand million dollars, and all at once the door could be shut a little.

Not far enough, the mothers say. Hear them.

I bore thirteen children. I saw most of them sold away. The man who sold them sat in church on Sunday and called himself a good man. His sin was not ignorance. His sin was knowing, and calling it business.

This is the same sin in new clothes. They built a thing that reaches into a child’s pocket and holds her past midnight. They measured what it did to her. They measured it, and kept building, and called the measuring growth.

Scripture says, suffer the little children to come unto me. Not unto the marketplace. Not unto the strangers behind the glass. And a man who makes his money off a child’s harm, then pays a judge to make it quiet - where is his repentance? Show me the man who will stand before those mothers and say: we knew, and we weighed your child against our profit, and your child weighed less.

They say the new rules do not go far enough. A fence built by the man who grew fat on the open gate will always be built short.

Look at the children. Not the numbers. The children. They have been telling you what the night was like. They are telling you still.
