When one group claims a “revolution” to seize land specifically earmarked for another’s administration, they are not merely disputing property; they are dismantling the very concept of a legal jurisdiction. A state exists only insofar as its boundaries define the reach of its justice. By moving violence from contested zones into the heart of Palestinian-governed areas, the settlers are attempting to prove that no separate jurisdiction exists. They seek to turn a structured legal reality into a formless void where only the will of the stronger prevails.

The politician may speak of security, and the theologian may speak of ancient promise, but these are distinct modes of discourse that must not be allowed to colonize the realm of civil administration. The promise of a land is a matter of faith - a rhetorical or dialectical truth for the believer. The administration of a territory is a matter of demonstrative justice and signed treaty. When the image of the “promised land” is used to override the demonstrative reality of a legal border, the harmony between faith and reason is shattered.

We must return to the original texts of the accords. They were not suggestions; they were the definitions of where one authority ends and another begins. To ignore these boundaries is to treat the law as a mere commentary that can be discarded when it no longer serves the commentator’s desire. If the jurisdiction of the heartland is not respected, then the law itself has no heart. Justice requires the physician’s precision: one must know exactly where the limb of one body ends and the other begins, or the entire organism will perish from the infection of chaos.
