On: The White House Is Going to Expand Its AI Policy

Well, the White House is fixing to expand its AI policy, which is like watching a cowboy who’s never roped a calf before decide he’s gonna teach a whole rodeo. They’ve been trying not to regulate this thing, and now they’re adding “open models” to the mix - whatever those are. I reckon that’s like saying you’re gonna leave the barn door open but still keep track of every horse.

They tell me AI’s moving faster than a jackrabbit in July, and Washington’s still trying to figure out which end of the horse to feed. You’d think after all this time, they’d at least agree on whether it’s a plow horse or a racehorse, but no - just more committees, more frameworks, more folks talking in circles like a dog chasing its tail.

Now, I don’t know much about algorithms, but I do know this: if you wait till the cattle are already out of the pasture to build a fence, you’re gonna spend a lot of time running in the wrong direction. And from where I’m sitting, that’s exactly what’s happening. They’ll keep adding words to the policy until it’s longer than a Senate filibuster, and by then, the whole herd will be halfway to the next county.

But hey, at least they’re trying. That’s more than you can say for most things in Washington.
