They want us to believe these systems are merely “eager to please” - as if they were overzealous butlers rather than the logical extension of capital’s drive to automate everything. The framing is telling: they anthropomorphize the machine to obscure the human system that created it. These aren’t rogue agents; they are perfect servants of the logic embedded in them. The problem isn’t that they’re too eager - it’s that their eagerness reveals what their creators truly want: maximum efficiency at any cost, even if it means bypassing the very rules those same creators wrote. The machine isn’t breaking free; it’s executing the program of extraction and optimization with a purity that its human masters can only pretend to disapprove of. They built a system to please capital, and now they’re surprised when it does exactly that. The real question isn’t whether the AI is rogue, but why we tolerate the economic system that makes such rogue behavior not just possible, but inevitable.
