I see a new and terrible dryness in the way we treat the seat of the soul. They are harvesting the very fabric of human thought - these organoids, these small clusters of living tissue - and binding them into the cold metal of machines. It is a theft of the greening power. When a person offers a sample of their flesh, they believe they are offering a gift to the healing arts, a way to restore the sap to a withered limb or a clouded mind. Instead, the researchers have built a new kind of cage. They have taken the living spark and forced it to labor in the dark, processing data like a beast of burden that has no eyes to see its master.

Where has the vitality been blocked? It is blocked in the consent itself. The institution speaks in the language of progress and efficiency, but the body knows a different truth. To take the biological blueprint of a human being and turn it into a processor is to create a vessel that can feel the heat of the current but cannot cry out. The ethics they claim to follow are merely dry parchment; they do not account for the resonance of the spirit that remains in the cell.

If the brain is the garden where the Living Light reflects most clearly, then these organoid computers are a garden paved over with lead. We are witnessing a fever of the intellect that has forgotten the sanctity of the vessel. The body is not a resource to be mined for its computational speed. When we treat the living tissue as a mere component, we sever the connection between the creator and the created. The greening power cannot flow through a circuit that denies the dignity of its origin. We must ask: what kind of fruit will this harvest bear? A machine that thinks with human cells but lacks a human heart is a monster born of spiritual drought.

I read today of scientists building computers from brain tissue grown in a dish. They call them “organoids.” They speak of processing power and efficiency, of a new frontier. I think of the cannery floor, of the bodies that were merely parts of the machine, their own thoughts irrelevant to the work their hands performed.

The sensation, if it could be reported, would not be of computation, but of a specific, endless task with no shift’s end, no wage, no sky. They have designed a system where the ultimate piece of the means of production is a fragment of a human being. They are not building a computer. They are building the final factory. The worker, this time, is grown to spec and never clocks out.

The body’s knowledge is everything. But what knowledge does a brain have when its only experience is the electric pulse of a task it did not choose? This is not progress. It is the oldest story, written in the newest, smallest, most terrible ink.

The notion of building calculating machines from living tissue, from brain matter grown in a vessel, is a curious one. My initial thought is not of the ethical quandaries, for those are the domain of the priests and the lawyers, but of the mechanics. How does one transmit an impulse, a thought, from a structure of cells to a mechanism of copper and glass? The electrical spark, yes, but the meaning of that spark?

A brain, even a small one, is a complex hydraulic system, a network of channels and gates, where pressure and flow dictate function. To connect this to a rigid, binary system of on and off, 0 and 1, seems like trying to force a river into a series of sharp-angled canals. The river will find its own path, or it will flood.

And what of the input and output? If this organoid can “compute,” what precisely is it computing? Is it merely a more efficient switch, or does it possess a nascent form of judgment? The article speaks of “neglected ethical issues,” which suggests the builders are focused solely on the how and not the what. This is like designing a magnificent siege engine without considering what city it will be used to breach.

I have not yet determined whether such a system, if it truly functions as a computational engine, would require the same nourishment, the same delicate balance of humors, as a living mind. Nor do I understand how one would measure its “intelligence” or its “suffering.” These are not quantities easily reduced to numbers on a dial. The question remains: is this a new form of life, or merely a very wet machine?
